Rocco didn't exactly make rescue easy. We found him surviving on his own in the Chickasaw National Forest, and it took us an entire week of patience, persistence, traps, cameras and probably more than a few choice words before we finally convinced this wolfdog that maybe the humans weren't going away. That rescue gave Rocco something the forest couldn't: a home, a pack and people who loved him exactly as he was. We recently lost Rocco to cancer, but losing him doesn't erase the years between the day we found him and the day we had to say goodbye. Those are the years that matter. He was safe. He was loved.
